Lot 3065
Constantine I, 307/310-337. Follis (Bronze, 20 mm, 3.29 g, 12 h), Rome, circa 320. CONST-ANTINVS AVG Laureate, helmeted and cuirassed bust of Constantine I to right, the helmet decorated with two stars. Rev. VIRTV-S AVGG / P - R / R P Campgate with closed doors and three turrets. RIC 176. Well struck on a large flan with full pearl rings, a lovely example with an interesting provenance. Minor areas of weakness and with very light deposits, otherwise, about extremely fine.

From the collections of Dr. L. Ramskold and Hermann Joseph Lückger (1864-1951).

In the late 1800s, Lückger was able to select many rarities from German hoards, including the huge Cologne Hoard discovered in 1895, to which this coin may well have belonged.
